The All India Services Association, Tripura Chapter, has strongly condemned the remarks made by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury against the Superintendent of Police (SP) of South Tripura District, describing the comments as derogatory, inappropriate and detrimental to the dignity of public institutions.

In a press note issued on Wednesday, the Association stated that referring to a serving Indian Police Service (IPS) officer as an "idiot" while the officer was performing official duties is unacceptable and falls short of the standards of conduct expected from a constitutional functionary. The Association maintained that such personal remarks undermine the dignity of the civil services and weaken public confidence in democratic institutions.

The Association asserted that the Superintendent of Police, South Tripura District, has been carrying out official responsibilities in accordance with the law. It noted that personal attacks on officers performing their duties in good faith could adversely affect the morale of both the police force and the wider civil services, besides eroding public trust in governance.

While acknowledging that elected representatives have every right to question government policies and administrative decisions, the Association stressed that criticism should remain respectful and should not involve abusive or insulting language directed at individual officers. It said that democratic accountability must be exercised within the framework of civility and institutional respect.

The press note further alleged that the Leader of the Opposition had, on earlier occasions as well, made unsubstantiated and offensive allegations against several senior officers of the State Government. According to the Association, repeated personal attacks on public servants without credible evidence are irresponsible and undermine both the dignity of public institutions and the morale of officers discharging their lawful duties.

The Association has urged Jitendra Choudhury to withdraw the remarks and issue an unconditional public apology. It also appealed to all public representatives, irrespective of political affiliation, to uphold civility, mutual respect and the dignity necessary for the effective functioning of democratic institutions.

The statement was jointly signed by Er. Rajesh Kumar Das on behalf of the IAS Association, Tripura Chapter, Shri R Darlong representing the IPS Association, Tripura Chapter, and Shri S Prabhu on behalf of the IFS Association, Tripura Chapter, reflecting the collective stand of the three All India Services associations in the state.
