Residents and contractors on Sunday staged a road blockade at Tilabazar in Tripura's Kailashahar subdivision, alleging that repair work on a breached embankment along the Manu river near the India-Bangladesh border had been obstructed.

The protesters claimed the damaged embankment at Latiapura, which protects 12 border villages, suffered breaches following recent heavy rainfall and floods. According to contractors, the Flood Control Department had initiated emergency restoration work, including earth-filling, on Friday.

Contractor Abdul Mannan alleged that a group of people stopped the work during the night and turned back vehicles carrying soil. He further claimed that 19 trucks loaded with boulders, sent the next day for strengthening the embankment, were also prevented from reaching the site and had to return.

Mannan alleged the incidents occurred in the presence of police personnel and accused government advocate Sandeep Deb Roy of obstructing the repair work. He also alleged that a press conference was held near the international border despite security restrictions in the zero-point area.

Protesters demanded immediate resumption of the repair work and legal action against those allegedly responsible for disrupting it. They warned that further delay could leave around 12 villages vulnerable to fresh flooding and urged the administration to restore the embankment without delay.
