Tripura Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital, a modern 50-bed healthcare facility built at Jackson Gate in Agartala at a cost of Rs.20.37 crore. The hospital is expected to significantly enhance access to quality healthcare for residents of Agartala and its adjoining suburban areas.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, IAS, Corporator Ratna Dutta and several senior officials and public representatives.
Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister toured the newly built hospital and described the occasion as a historic milestone in Tripura's public healthcare system. He said the establishment of the hospital reflects the state government's commitment to delivering modern, affordable and accessible healthcare services at the doorstep of the people.
Speaking at the event held on the premises of Maharani Tulsibati Girls' Higher Secondary School, Dr. Saha said the hospital has been developed as a pilot project and, it will be run by Agartala Municipal corporation, if successful, the government would consider extending similar healthcare facilities to the remaining 19 Urban Local Bodies across the state.
Highlighting the hospital's infrastructure, the Chief Minister said every bed has been equipped with an oxygen supply and the facility has been designed with corporate style modern medical amenities to improve patient care. He also announced that the hospital will provide evening Outpatient Department (OPD) services, a move aimed at benefiting working professionals and other citizens who often find it difficult to visit hospitals during regular daytime hours.
Dr. Saha further stated that the government is working towards implementing an integrated health system to ensure quality healthcare services are available from the primary level onwards throughout the state.
While the inauguration has been widely welcomed as a major addition to Agartala's healthcare infrastructure, some questions remain unanswered. As of now, the government has not officially announced the date from which OPD services will commence, nor has it released details regarding the medical departments, specialist doctors or the range of treatments that will be available at the hospital.
The absence of these operational details has led to some confusion among the public, with many residents seeking clarification on which medical services will be offered and when patients can begin availing treatment.
Despite these pending announcements, the launch of the Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital marks a significant step towards strengthening urban healthcare infrastructure in Tripura and is expected to play a vital role in improving medical services for thousands of residents in the state capital.
