A fresh controversy has gripped Tripura's administrative and police establishment after a resignation letter submitted bybthe Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Vigilance Organization in Tripura Shri Jeremia Darlong (TPS Gr-I). The main function of the Vigilance Organization, which is administratively subordinate to the GA (AR) Department, is to conduct preliminary inquiries into corruption complaints and process departmental inquiries.
After surfaced the news of his resignation, triggering widespread discussion over alleged political interference in official functioning.
According to reports, the senior IPS officer has expressed deep dissatisfaction over what he described as repeated interference in the functioning of the Vigilance Department, making it difficult to discharge his duties independently. The resignation letter has reportedly been forwarded through proper channels and has become the subject of intense debate within administrative circles.
The issue has gained further significance as the officer has been associated with several high-profile investigations in recent years. Sources indicate that the letter highlights concerns over external influence in the investigation process and the lack of administrative freedom required for impartial functioning.
The controversy has also revived discussions over the independence of investigative agencies in the state. Administrative observers believe the development raises serious questions about whether senior police officers are able to carry out sensitive investigations without pressure.
The report notes that the matter is particularly sensitive because the officer had previously served in key investigative assignments, including in the Vigilance wing, where he handled cases involving alleged financial irregularities and corruption. His resignation has therefore attracted attention from both bureaucratic and political circles.
As news of the resignation spread, opposition CPIM state Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury reportedly demanded that the state government clarify the circumstances leading to the officer's decision. He also called for transparency and sought an explanation regarding the allegations of interference mentioned in the resignation letter.
So far, the Tripura Government has not issued any official statement confirming acceptance of the resignation or responding to the allegations. Senior officials are also yet to make any formal comments on the matter.
