Tripura on Friday exported a fresh consignment of organic agricultural products to Dubai through Lulu Retail, with Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath saying the initiative would create greater opportunities for the state's farmers in international markets.

The shipment included 1,300 organic scented lemons, 182 kg of organic Kalikhasa aromatic rice and 350 Queen pineapples. Nath flagged off the consignment at a programme held in Agartala.

The minister said the export reflected the increasing global demand for Tripura's organic produce and formed part of the state's efforts to strengthen its presence in overseas markets.

According to him, the scented lemons were supplied by Baramura Farmer Producer Company (FPC) in Khowai district, the Kalikhasa aromatic rice came from Trishna FPC in South Tripura district, while the Queen pineapples were sourced from Khabaksa FPC in Gomati district.

Nath said Lulu Retail has an extensive presence across the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and procures food and agricultural products from more than 85 nations, making it an important platform for Tripura's exports.

He also noted that the state had recently exported 10,000 kg of organic dried bird's eye chilli to Germany, indicating rising international acceptance of its organic products. He added that the government was emphasising organic farming, value addition, certification, branding and market connectivity to improve farmers' income.

Referring to the recently concluded Destination Tripura Business Conclave, Nath said the agriculture and horticulture sectors attracted investment proposals worth Rs 1,698.4 crore through MoUs, with more investments expected in the coming months.
