The Tripura Pradesh Congress has expressed grave concern over the near collapse of the state administration and police functioning all over the state and demanded drastic action from the state administration to stem the tide of deterioration in all spheres of public life. Voicing the concern of Congress over the issue the PCC spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty yesterday told media persons that the sale of girl child by impoverished parents in Kanchanmala and Ramraibari under Santir Bazar subdivision and death of a tribal youth at work outside the state show the critical situation the state has been passing through ever since the BJP came to power in Tripura.

He also lashed out at the functioning of ADC in Tripura, wondering why the newly constituted ADC still do not have a full-fledged executive council . Ït has been more than three months since the election was held and a party won a decisive mandate but after a fairly long period of time only the chief executive member (CEM) was appointed in Runiel Debbarma . “Where are other executive members and is it not retarding the functioning of the ADC ? Moreover, the way ADC’s assets are being given away in lease to private parties from outside also raise serious questions and whether the ADC formed under 6th schedule can do so is also a matter of constitutional debate as the 6th schedule is not a separate constitution but only an appendage to our constitution ; as far as we understand ADC can not act independent of the state government in such matters in our present constitutional scheme of things but the state government is silent on these crucial issues which is questionable” said Prabir.

He also raised serious questions over the law and order situation in the context of Bishalgarh which, he stated, has become a valley of fear where police is totally inactive . “Since law and order is an exclusive domain of the ,home minister he can not remain silent over the issue and should take action to restore normalcy ; things can not be allowed to slide as it is now” said Prabir. He also referred to rapidly rising incidence of drug peddling in the state and the state government’s inability to contain this because , he alleged, large sections of the ruling party are involved in the drug racket. He also alluded without taking names to the theft of over Rs 14 lakhs from a seized private vehicle asking how the big amount of money simply vanished from the vehicle should be inquired into by the highest authority in state police but in the given case only an ASI has been entrusted with the investigation and he can do nothing against his superiors . “Neither the home minister nor the DGP seems to be moved by anything related to spiraling crimes in the state but this situation can not be allowed to continue” said Prabir. He added that as opposition party Congress can only mobilise public opinion against the worsening situation but the action will have to be taken by the government.
