Sold out newborn infant recovered by police and childline offcials , now sheltered in one-stop centre

A newborn infant that had been sold out for a pittance by impoverished parents from south Tripura has been recovered by police and childline workers and officials . The infant is currently sheltered in a one-stop centre run by the childline authority under the social welfare department. Giving details police sources said that poor day-labourer Thailafru Mog and his wife Chimra Mog, residents of Balibari area under Ramrai ADC village in Santir Bazar subdivision, had been passing days in extreme poverty , finding it difficult to feed and rear their three children .The birth of their girl child recently had put them in a serious dilemma as the couple was unable to properly feed it and bring it up.
It was in this context that the couple had sold out the newborn infant to a couple from Kulai area under Dhalai district on July 5 but the sale of the infant triggered a furore in the area and the news reached the police and childline authority. The couple had received a payment of Rs 21,500.00 for the sale of the infant. But after being informed of the sale the police and childline authority queried the seller parents, Thailafru and Chimra Mog and launched a search operation and soon got in touch with the buyer couple and spoke to them in the childline office in Ambassa. The couple admitted that they had indeed bought up the infant and returned it to the childline officers and police.
The social welfare department’s inspector Prabir Debbarma told media persons that the newborn infant had been brought back to Belonia one-stop centre of the childline authority and at the same time the infant’s mother Chimra Mog had also been brought to the one-stop centre with her two other children to stay with her recovered infant . The people of Belonia Ramraibari expressed satisfaction over the positive role played by police and childline authority in recovering the infant.
