Police on the look out for errant driver for driving vehicle with traffic police on bonnet , vehicle seized

Stung by the dangerous ill-treatment of the traffic police assistant sub-inspector by a Maruti Suzuki Boleno driver yesterday , the Tripura police seem to have waked up to the reality of insecurity of law enforcement officials in Tripura. After a careful search operation based on CCTV footage the police personnel of West Agartala police station have been able to identify and seize the Maruti Suzuki Boleno vehicle numbered TR03M0775 . However the unruly driver who carried the traffic assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Biplab Datta on his bonnet from Battala to the steel bridge across the river Hawrah along the embankment , is yet to be taken into custody.

Rattled by the incident the IG (law and order) Monchak Ippar arrived at the West Agartala police station this morning and held a meeting with the officers and directed them to intensify search operation to nab the guilty Maruti driver and bring him to book. He asked the officer in charge of the West Police station Rana Chatterjee and his juniors to arrest the culprit by any means , taking details of the ownership of the vehicle from the vehicle department and collecting the name of the driver from the owner.

Speaking to media persons IG Monchak Ippar said that all steps will be taken to identify and nab the guilty driver on the basis of the FIR filed by the traffic ASI Biplab Datta. “This is a heinous crime and can be looked upon as an attempt to murder ,after the culprit is arrested relevant sections of the BNS will be invoked to have the driver proceeded against in court of law; the police will do its duties soon” said IG Monchak Ippar.
