Basic services, infrastructure development our top priority, says Tripura CM

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said ensuring basic civic services and strengthening urban infrastructure remain among the state government's key priorities as he inaugurated the newly constructed office of Agartala Municipal Corporation's Ward No. 40 at Baradowali.
Addressing the programme, Saha said the government was committed to expanding citizen services in a transparent manner without compromising on infrastructure development.
He said the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) had been implementing various projects to improve civic amenities and modern infrastructure in the city.
Referring to urban development initiatives undertaken since 2019, the chief minister said planned interventions had been carried out to address civic issues, including sewage management and restoration of water bodies.
According to him, 24 water bodies have been renovated and beautified in the AMC area at a cost of Rs 137 crore.
Saha said the government had ensured household drinking water supply in areas where such facilities were unavailable for a long time.
He also highlighted progress under housing schemes, stating that a target had been set to construct 79,878 houses at a cost of Rs 1,292 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). More than 76,000 houses have already been completed, while another 4,300 houses will be built under PMAY-Urban 2.0, he said.
The chief minister said township projects were also being implemented in urban areas and that 48 flats had already been allotted, while work on the Lighthouse project was in progress.
Saha said multiple projects were being executed under the Smart City Mission to develop Agartala as a modern urban centre.
He further said the government was focusing on livelihood generation in urban areas through the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, under which 6,725 self-help groups have been formed. He added that the allocation for the Tripura Urban Employment Programme (TUEP) had been increased and assistance was being extended to sanitation workers in urban local bodies.
Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, South Zone Chairman Abhijit Mallick and AMC Commissioner Saju Wahid A. were present at the programme.
