Tripura University has come under renewed scrutiny after a contractual Assistant Professor alleged that the university has failed to fully implement the directions of the Hon'ble High Court despite issuing an official order releasing his salary.

The controversy relates to Shri Sumanta Saha, a contractual Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology, who had challenged his termination before the High Court of Tripura. The Court had granted interim relief and directed his reinstatement. Following a contempt petition filed by the complainant, the university issued an Office Order dated July 7, 2026, stating that, in compliance with the High Court's order in IA No. 03 of 2026 in WP(C) No. 314 of 2026, his salary would be released from April 2026 onwards until disposal of the writ petition.

However, according to the complainant, despite the issuance of the office order, he has still not received his salary. He further alleges that although he resumed his duties following the High Court's direction, his office room remains locked, preventing him from functioning normally as a faculty member.

The complainant has reportedly filed another interlocutory application in the pending contempt proceedings, alleging that the university has not fully complied with the High Court's directions.

The case has triggered fresh debate within academic circles over the implementation of judicial orders by the university administration. Questions are being raised over why, despite a formal order releasing the salary, the alleged non-payment and denial of access to the faculty member's office continue.

The complainant has also alleged that while he was removed from service without prior notice after serving the university for over 18 years, no action has been taken against another contractual Assistant Professor in the same department despite allegations regarding the authenticity of the individual's M.Tech degree. According to the complainant, representations in this regard have been submitted to the President of India and the Central Government, and the matter is awaiting appropriate action.

Tripura University has not yet publicly responded to the latest allegations regarding non-payment of salary and continued denial of office access. The matter remains sub judice before the High Court, and the allegations have not been adjudicated on their merits.
