Following a decision taken by the state cabinet on June 25, the education department of the state government has made singing the constitutionally recognized ‘National Song’ Vande Mataram in full version before commencement of classes along the national anthem in all the schools of the state including the ‘Madrasas’. As per the decision the singing of the national anthem will follow the collective singing of the ‘Vande Mataram’ before commencement of class work in the schools.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the additional secretary (education) to the government of Tripura Rajiv Datta. In the notification it has been explained that the state cabinet decision in this regard had been taken in pursuance of the detailed instructions issued by the union home ministry on January 28 this year. “ In pursuance of the national directives and to promote national integration and cultivate unconditional respect towards national symbols among the youth , the Education (school) department, government of Tripura proposes to enforce uniform implementation of these guidelines in all government, government-aided and privately managed schools including all the ‘Madrasas’ operating within the administrative jurisdiction of the state of Tripura” said Rajiv Datta. Hence it is proposed that the daily academic routine of all schools shall formally commence with the collective singing of full version of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ followed by singing of national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’, he added.
The notification further states that “ as outlined in the guidelines , whenever the national song is sung or played , all students , faculty members and administrative staff shall stand to attention as a mark of deep respect and proper decorum.
