Tripura has recorded a lower-than-average performance in the utilisation of the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds, with only a small proportion of sanctioned money spent and just one project completed across its three MPs, according to data available on the Empowered India digital platform.
The state has received a total allocation of Rs 41.7 crore under the MPLAD scheme. Of this, only 22.78 per cent has been utilised despite nearly 100 development works being recommended. Tripura is placed 22nd among 36 states and Union Territories in the national rankings.
Nationally, Rs 703 crore has been allocated under the scheme, with around Rs 520 crore utilised, reflecting a utilisation rate of about 74 per cent. More than 4,400 projects have been completed across the country.
Among Tripura's parliamentarians, East Tripura MP Kriti Devi Debbarman has recorded the lowest utilisation. Of the Rs 14.7 crore allocated, only Rs 1.9 crore has been spent. While 49 projects have been recommended, none has been completed.
West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb has utilised Rs 4.6 crore, or 31.1 per cent, of his Rs 14.7 crore allocation. Although 29 projects have been approved, none has been completed.
Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee has utilised Rs 3.5 crore out of Rs 12.3 crore allocated and is the only MP from the state to have completed one project. The figures are based on data updated in April 2026.
