The veteran Congress MLA and member of Congress Working Committee (CWC) Sudip Roybarman has demanded notification of a regular annual recruitment calendar of the state government whereby the job-seekers and candidates for competitive exams for jobs will come to know when such exams will take place. “It is well known that the UPSC, Staff Selection Commission and Banking Service Recruitment Board and Railway authority hold regular annual recruitments exams ; the candidates know well in advance when such exams will take place and can prepare themselves for this ; this should be the case in Tripura also” said Sudip. He made the assertion in a letter addressed to the chief minister Dr Manik Saha yesterday.

In his letter Sudip pointed out that there are at least fifty eight thousand vacancies in posts of gazette officers and non-gazetted employees including teachers at school and college level but no body knows when competitive exams or interviews for recruitment to such posts will take place. Citing an example he said that the last TCS exam had taken place in the year 2022 but the process was completed only in the year 2024 after a gap of long two years. Besides, in the year 2024 the state cabinet had cleared recruitment of 216 sub-inspectors but the recruitment exam for this has not yet been held . At the same time the recruitment process of 166 Tehshildars and more than a hundred Ámin’ has not yet been initiated despite announcement made much earlier on this. Similarly , there has been no progress in the recruitment process of 104 auditors in the state government’s finance department even though the state government had framed the Tripura Finance Services Rules two years ago.

He also cited many other instances of government’s failure to recruit required staff because of procedural delays , bureaucratic sloth and other extraneous reasons. Sudip said that he had raised these issues in the state assembly as also with the government earlier but nothing has come out of this . He called upon the state government to streamline and regularize the entire process of recruitment to vacant posts within the shortest possible time to ease the burden of unemployment among youths in the state as well as to make the administration more efficient.
