Minister Kishore Barman satisfied with initiative to raise allocation for states by 16th finance commission

Tripura minister for panchayat and higher education Kishore Barman expressed his gratitude and appreciation over recommendations of the 16th finance commission for allocation of funds to states on panchayat development. He attended a national workshop, organized in Delhi Bharat Mandapam on the issue by the union ministry of Panchayati Raj yesterday.

Addressing the gathering Kishore Barman appreciated the gesture of the union ministry of Panchayati Raj and the departmental minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh in organizing the work-shop as well as for sanctioning the entire fund to Tripura as per recommendations of the 15th finance commission. He noted that Tripura was one of the few states to have received the entire fund recommended by the 15th finance commission. He also welcomed several key proposals made by the 16th finance commission including an increase in grants for Tripura by the 16th finance commission, the introduction of performance grants and the proposal to maintain 50 : 50 ratio between tied and untied funds for Panchayati Raj institutions.

In the course of his address Kishore Barman also highlighted the achievements of Tripura in strengthening local self-governance . “ My state has won three national awards in the current year from the union ministry of Panchayati Raj including the e-governance award following seven national awards received last year ; our effort is to continue the effective and welfare-oriented functioning” said Kishore Barman. The national work-shop was attended by Panchayati Raj ministers from 18 states , representatives of states and senior officials of the central government to deliberate on the recommendations of the 16th finance commission. Barman hoped that implementation of the recommendations made by the 16th finance commission will lead to further development of panchayat system and rural development works, leading to major improvement in the quality of life in the rural and hilly parts of Tripura.
