In a major achievement for Tripura's rural governance and digital transformation initiatives, Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat under Mohanpur RD Block in West Tripura has been conferred the prestigious Silver Award at the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) 2026, organised by the Government of India. The recognition was announced during the valedictory session of the 29th National Conference on e-Governance held at the Rajasthan International Centre (RIC) in Jaipur on July 2.
The award was presented by Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (DARPG), in recognition of Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat's outstanding contribution to digital governance and grassroots public service delivery.
Representing the Government of Tripura, Secretary of the Rural Development (Panchayats) Department, Abhishek Singh, IAS received the national honour on behalf of the state.
Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat secured the Silver Award under the category "Grassroots Level Initiatives by Gram Panchayats for Deepening/Widening of Service Delivery." Notably, it was one of only two Gram Panchayats across the country selected for this prestigious recognition and also received a cash incentive of Rs.5 lakh.
The award recognises the Panchayat's remarkable transformation into a digitally empowered, transparent and citizen-centric local administration. It has emerged as a national model by becoming the first Gram Panchayat in Tripura to achieve 100 per cent digitisation of legacy records while establishing a fully operational e-Office capable of delivering more than 100 online public services to residents.
The Panchayat's performance is reflected in its impressive Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI 2.0) score of 88.55 (Grade A), highlighting excellence in governance, transparency and public service delivery.
Among its notable achievements are 100 per cent digital literacy among local women, the successful implementation of the "Gram Barta" voice-based information platform for community outreach, the introduction of AI-based learning initiatives, and a remarkable 194 per cent increase in Own Source Revenue (OSR). These initiatives have significantly strengthened local governance while improving access to public services and enhancing citizen participation.
The national recognition is expected to inspire other Gram Panchayats across Tripura and the country to adopt technology-driven governance models that promote transparency, efficiency and inclusive rural development.
The achievement marks another milestone in Tripura's ongoing efforts to strengthen digital governance at the grassroots level and reinforces the state's growing reputation as a leader in leveraging technology for effective public service delivery.
