In a major milestone for aviation infrastructure in Northeast India, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has officially commenced international flight operations from its Terminal 2 (T2), marking a significant step towards strengthening the region's global air connectivity.

The historic occasion witnessed the first international departure from Terminal 2 with the Guwahati–Paro flight, while the first international arrival landed from Singapore, symbolising the airport's expanding role as an international gateway for the Northeast.

To celebrate the landmark achievement, airport authorities organised a traditional Assamese welcome ceremony for arriving passengers. The event featured Gamusa felicitation, lamp lighting, cake cutting, sapling distribution, and the serving of welcome drinks, showcasing Assam's rich cultural heritage and hospitality.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Customs, Immigration, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), airline operators, and various airport stakeholders, who jointly celebrated the beginning of a new era in international aviation services from Guwahati.

Officials stated that the commencement of international operations from Terminal 2 will significantly enhance passenger convenience, improve operational efficiency, and support the growing demand for international travel from the Northeast. The development is also expected to promote tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchanges by providing improved connectivity with neighbouring countries and international destinations.

With this expansion, Guwahati Airport further consolidates its position as the primary aviation hub of Northeast India, reinforcing its commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure, seamless passenger services, and greater global accessibility for the region.
