A huge cache of intoxicant ESkuf cough syrup, used for artificial stimulation like liquor, has been caught at Agartala railway station by General Reserve Police (GRP) personnel. Sources who could not give all the details said that the big consignment had come via a parcel on railway freight and, having a feedback on the issue in advance, the GRP personnel conducted a search operation and traced out the huge ESkuf cough syrup consignment worth at least Rs 8 crores in the black market. Such syrups including phenseydyl and Corex are generally smuggled out to Bangladesh where the faithful addicts consume them in stead of liquor which is very expensive in market.
Sources said that one person who had come to take away the consignment has been arrested and is currently under interrogation for further details. The nabbed persons whose name was not revealed by sources will be handed over to police personnel in Amtoli police station. This is the latest seizure of contraband cough syrup and is the biggest.
