Climate-Resilient Paddy Seeds Distributed to 50 Farmers in North Tripura, ICAR Conducts Special Training Programme

In a significant initiative to promote climate-resilient agriculture and enhance paddy productivity in North Tripura, a one-day farmer training and seed distribution programme was organised at the Conference Hall of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Tripura, Panisagar conducted on 30 June 2026.
The programme was jointly organised by the ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids (ICAR-NRCO), Pakyong, Sikkim, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Tripura, with support from the North Eastern Hill (NEH) Component of ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI), Cuttack.The event was graced by Bagbassa MLA Jadab Lal Nath as the chief guest. Two scientists from ICAR-NRCO, Dr. Kalaivahanan and Dr. Nikhila, also participated in the programme and interacted with farmers on improved rice cultivation practices and climate-resilient farming technologies.The training programme was coordinated by Shantanu Das, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), KVK North Tripura, under the supervision of Dr. Somendra Kumar, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK. The overall programme was implemented under the leadership of Dr. Shankar Prasad Das, Director of ICAR-NRCO, Pakyong, Sikkim.
During the programme, around 500 kilograms of certified paddy seeds were distributed among 50 farmers from different parts of North Tripura district. The improved rice varieties included CR Dhan 803, Swarna Sub-1, Pooja Dhan, CR Dhan 409 (Pradhan), CR Dhan 1009 (Savitri Sub-1), and CR Dhan 1018 (Gayetri).These high-yielding and climate-resilient varieties have been specifically developed to withstand adverse weather conditions, including floods and other impacts of climate change. Agricultural experts said the improved varieties are expected to significantly enhance crop productivity, strengthen food security, and improve farmers' incomes across the district.
Farmers from Bargul, Tarkapur, Rajnagar, Bishnupur, and Yubarajnagar villages actively participated in the workshop, where they received practical guidance on scientific cultivation techniques, seed management, and sustainable farming practices.
The initiative reflects ICAR's continued commitment to equipping farmers in the North Eastern region with advanced agricultural technologies and resilient crop varieties to address the growing challenges posed by climate change while improving agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.
