Misconduct and threat by MLA, Bishalgarh SDM seeks security

In a bizarre incident the SDM , Bishalgarh , Binky Saha has sought proper security arrangement in her office in the face of threat and intimidation from MLA Sushanta Deb who had insulted her as well as the office staff. The shameful incident happened on 7 but has come to light of late in the wake of security measures taken by police.

Even though SDM Binky Saha was not available for comment, sources in her office said that on May 7 the SDM had been engaged in a high-level meeting through video conferencing in her chamber . At that time the MLA of Bishalgarh Sushanta Deb, accompanied by a large group of at least forty ruffians owing allegiance to the BJP stormed into her room and charged the SDM why a plot of ‘Jote’ (individually owned) land in office tilla area had not been recorded as ‘Khas’ (government owned) land . The embarrassed SDM had to stop her participation in the ongoing video conferencing meeting and tried to convince the MLA that the administration could not willfully change the character of a plot of land without going through due process as it would be illegal and liable for action . But the MLA Sushanta Deb remained adamant on his position and , infuriated by the SDM’s refusal to oblige him, started abusing Binky Saha as well as her junior DCMs and other staff members of the office.

It was at the intervention of other staff members and locals that Sushanta Deb left theoffice after issuing threats to the SDM. It was on the very next day-that is, on May 8- that Binky Saha had addressed letters to the DM (Sipahijala) Dr Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal and SP of the district Bijay Debbarma informing of the illegal act committed by MLA Sushanta Deb and seeking proper security arrangements in her office for herself as well as for staff memmbers. Sources said that the DM and SP provided additional security to the Bishalgarh SDM office as well as to Binky Saha but the staff members continue to work in a state of fear.

Giving the background of the case sources said that MLA Sushanta Deb had got money sanctioned from his MPLAD fund for digging a swimming pool in office tilla area . But part of the plot of land chosen for digging the swimming pool is recorded as ‘Jote’ (individually titled) in revenue records which could not be used for purpose without an official acquisition through due process. But the MLA Sushanta Deb who understands little or nothing of the administrative process or provisions of law insisted on the plot of ‘Jote’ land being officially converted and recorded as ‘Khas’ (government owned) land . This was explained to him by the SDM but, being ignorant of law and procedure, he remained adamant on the issue and needlessly insulted the SDM Binky Saha who is known to be a sincere and efficient officer, sources said . Even at the political level no action is known to have been taken against the errant MLA.
