A lineman working on high voltage power transmission line in Kalyanpur area under Khowai subdivision got electrocuted because of sudden transmission of power and died on the spot . He was however declared ‘dead on arrival’ after being taken to Teliamura subdivisional hospital. This cast a shadow of grief and mourning in Kalyanpur and his native village in Paharmura under Khowai subdivision.
Giving details police sources said that Bidhy Kopali (45), an electric lineman engaged on daily wage basis and a resident of Paharmura village under Khowai subdivisional town, had been atop an electric post at Kalyanpur yesterday. He had been engaged by electrical contractor Samiran Debnath who had duly informed the local TSECL authority about the repair work on the transmission line and asked for shut-down during the periodicity of the work . But there was shut-down plate pasted on the spot or in the TSECL office and the information about the shut-down had also not been properly recorded by the TSECL authority.
Around 11-30 AM when daily rate worker Bidhu Kopali had been working on the high-power line atop a post the power supply was resumed without any notice and the worker got in contact with the high voltage line. He was electrocuted on top of the ladder on which he had been standing and within a short while fell down on the ground. The other workers as well as local people took him to the Teliamura subdivisional hospital where he was declared ‘dead on arrival’. Bidhu Kopali’s body was taken to his native village Paharmura after post-mortem in the evening and there were heart-rending scenes of wailing by his surviving wife and children. The local people in Teliamura blamed the negligence of the TSECL authority for the death of Bidhu Kopali and said that , had they resumed power supply on the line after repair, the accident would not have happened but the TSECL authority denied the allegation.
