The apparently accidental death of a colour artisan, found floating in the river Hawrah, has sparked a furore in the West Pratapgarh area with his family members claiming that it was a case of murder camouflaged by killers as a case of drowning. Speaking on the issue an official of the disaster management authority said that around 12-00 in the night on Saturday they had received a call informing them that a human body had been floating in the river Hawrah near the park on the bank of the river. Three teams of NDRF, Fire Brigade and civil defence had reached the spot and launched a search operation and finally on Sunday morning the lifeless body of Ramjan Ali (32) alias Titu, a colour artisan by profession and resident of Laskar Para area in Pratapgarh, was recovered. A police team, accompanied by forensic officers, reached the spot and gathered evidence before registering a case of unnatural death.
But family members of Ramjan Ali cried foul and alleged that Ramjan had been murdered as there were blood stains on the grass of the park where he had gone around 9-00 in the evening. The hinted that Ramjan had a dispute with the security guards in the park and this could be reason for his murder. But police is yet to comment on the nature of crime, if any, as they are awaiting a detailed report from the forensic department. A senior police official said that, making a comment on the nature of the crime at this stage is unwise before receiving forensic report and at least a prima facie evidence. However, Ramjanās family members stick to their demand for an inquiry , terming the case as a murder.
