A massive torchlight procession organized by the youth wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) in Dharmanagar has sparked fresh political discussions, with many observers viewing it as an early indication of the party's attempt to regain lost ground ahead of the upcoming municipal elections in Tripura.
The demonstration, held on the evening of June 27 as part of the party's sub-divisional youth conference, witnessed a significant turnout of young supporters along with senior party leaders and workers. Political observers described it as one of the most energetic CPIM mobilizations seen in Dharmanagar since the party lost power in 2018.
The renewed activism comes at a time when sections of the opposition have alleged growing public dissatisfaction over issues such as alleged poor governance by some local BJP leaders, allegations of commission-based practices, substandard execution of public works, alleged land brokerage activities, and concerns over the spread of narcotics and other criminal activities. These allegations have been raised by political opponents and have not been independently verified.
