As many as eight Bangladeshi nationals have been detained by the Airport Police Station from different areas under its jurisdiction over the past 24 hours, with investigators probing possible links to an organised human trafficking or illegal immigration network.
Police sources said the operation began after specific intelligence inputs suggested that four Bangladeshi nationals who had allegedly entered Tripura illegally were planning to leave the state. Acting on the information, Airport Police launched a surveillance and search operation within areas under the police station.
During the initial operation, four suspected Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended. Their interrogation subsequently led investigators to other individuals believed to be connected to the same network.
Based on the fresh leads, police carried out additional searches and detained four more Bangladeshi nationals from different locations under the Airport Police Station limits. All eight detainees are adult males.
According to investigators, the men had allegedly entered India through illegal routes and were preparing to travel to destinations outside Tripura. The first batch of four detainees has already been remanded to police custody, while the remaining four were produced before a local court on Sunday. Police have sought custodial interrogation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding their entry and movement.
Officials are now investigating the routes used to enter the state, the intended destinations of the detainees, and the possible involvement of local facilitators who may have arranged their transportation and shelter.
Police are also examining whether the men were acting independently or were part of a larger organised network involved in cross-border trafficking and illegal migration.
The investigation is continuing, and authorities expect further details to emerge in the coming days.
