After the long fifteen year rule of Sheikh Hasina as the head of Awami League and the government of Bangladesh , the country had descended to all-round chaos with fundamentalist Jamat-e-Islami and militant Islamic outfits calling all the shots and highlighting the need for plain goonery and thuggery euphemistically called ‘Jihad’. But even after the assumption of power by relatively moderate BNP, the dubious elements inimical to Indian interests are now hyper-active to cause trouble in the northeastern region of the country including Tripura.
The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has filed a charge-sheet against nabbed anti-India activists in the special NIA court in Guwahati naming Jagir Mia of Tripura as one of the culprits in the case . This Jagir Mia, a resident of Sonamura, was found to be involved with notorious Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) which was active in Bangladesh for a long time till Sheikh Hasina curbed them. Sources from Bangladesh said that the JMB has already raised its ugly head to target liberal and democratic elements in Bangladesh, specially Hindus and Indian northeastern region.
Official sources here refused to comment on the issue but indicated that the union home ministry is seized of the matter and is keeping in touch with the state government and police. What however has become a matter of deep concern for the state is the fragile nature of the barbed wire fencing along the porous border and continuing infiltration of Muslims from across the border. Sources however added that a plan is being framed by the union home ministry for resetting the fencing and for identifying and deporting the infiltrators . Besides, the SIR process and census operations will also help to identify and deport the infiltrators and Bangladeshi illegals but vigil along the border and also within the state will be tightened to thwart the menace from Bangladesh. The threat has been growing because of the indulgence of the present BNP dispensation which is scared of antagonizing the fundamentalist elements , sources added.
