Ramnagar Flat Blast Claims One Life, Injured Youth Succumbs at GB Hospital, CM Orders Probe into Possible Gas Leak

The tragic flat explosion at Ramnagar 4, Agartala, has claimed its first life, as injured victim Shubhrajit Choudhury succumbed to his injuries at Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital despite prolonged treatment.

Shubhrajit, an employee of Abacus Agartala Head Office, was remembered by friends, colleagues and acquaintances as a kind and humble individual. Messages of condolence poured in on social media following the news of his death, with many expressing shock over the untimely loss. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also expressed shock over the untimely death of Shubhrajit.Earlier, a powerful explosion ripped through a flat in the Ramnagar 4 Road area, causing extensive damage to the apartment and neighbouring flats. Several people were injured in the incident, while residents were left terrified by the intensity of the blast.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, accompanied by the area MLA and Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, visited the affected apartment complex today midnoon. The Chief Minister inspected the damaged flats, interacted with local residents and eyewitnesses, and reviewed the extent of the destruction.

Dr. Saha assured the affected families that the state government would stand by them during this difficult time. He also wished the other injured a speedy recovery and emphasized that all necessary assistance would be provided to those affected by the explosion.

Importantly, the Chief Minister stated that the government would investigate whether negligence on the part of Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) played any role in the explosion. He said all possible causes, including a potential gas leak, would be thoroughly examined before any conclusions are drawn.

The incident has also renewed calls for a comprehensive forensic investigation. Many residents and observers have questioned whether adequate scientific investigations are being conducted in such incidents. They have also sought clarity on the findings of the explosion that occurred about a year ago at a residential flat near Fire Brigade Chowmuhani in Agartala, asking whether that investigation was completed and what conclusions, if any, were reached.

Experts note that forensic examination of blast sites is essential to determine the exact cause, identify any lapses in safety protocols, and recommend measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As investigations continue, the death of Shubhrajit Choudhury has deepened public grief and intensified demands for a transparent, scientific, and time-bound inquiry to establish accountability and ensure the safety of residents living in apartment complexes across the state.
