Rape perpetrator sentenced to rigorous ten years imprisonment in Kailasahar

The additional district and session judge of Kailasahar Prakash Kumar today sentenced Sankar Das (43) son of Ajit Das of Gour Nagar area and perpetrator of a proven rape, to ten years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 thousand . The default in payment of the fine by the convict will lead to an increase of three more months of imprisonment.
According to police sources the incident of rape had occurred in the year 2022 when Sankar Das, driver of the private vehicle owned by a retired government officer,had serially raped a domestic help engaged in the residence of the retired government employee . As a result the domestic help who was physically as well as mentally retired became pregnant and after several months in this condition her elder sister realized what had happened to her sister and filed a FIR with Kailasahar police station.
The case was investigated seriously by woman sub-inspector of Kailasahar womens police station Shibani Debbarma. Having completed her investigation and collected all evidence Shibani Debbarma who is currently posted in Sonamura filed charge-sheet in the case on December 31 2022 under various sections of the then Indian Penal Code (IPC) in force. After a fairly long trial the additional district and session judge of Kailasahar Prakash Kumar pronounced the verdict today, sentencing the rapist Sankar Das to rigorous imprisonment for ten years and imposing a fine of Rs 10 thousand in default of payment of which the convict will have to serve three more months of imprisonment. The people of Gournagar in Kailasahar welcomed the verdict and said that justice has been served.
