Hundreds of people from across North Tripura assembled at the Vivekananda Sardha Shatabarshiki Bhavan auditorium in Dharmanagar on Wednesday to pay homage to veteran CPI(M) leader and former minister Faizur Rahman, whose lifelong commitment to the people was remembered with deep respect and emotion.

Addressing the memorial meeting, former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar delivered a strong political message, alleging that both the country and Tripura are passing through a period of severe disorder. He cautioned that if the present situation continues, ordinary people would face serious hardships and urged citizens to prepare for a democratic struggle against what he described as growing misgovernance.

"Nothing is functioning properly in Tripura. If things continue in this manner, common people will face grave difficulties. The time has come to organise resistance with new ideas and renewed determination," Sarkar said while addressing the gathering.

Faizur Rahman, who passed away on June 13, was remembered not only as an eight-time MLA and former minister but also as a grassroots leader who remained closely connected with tea garden workers, farmers, and ordinary citizens throughout his political career. Beginning his public life through student politics, Rahman built a reputation for simplicity, accessibility, and unwavering commitment to people's welfare.

The memorial programme, organised by the CPI(M) North Tripura District Committee, witnessed an overwhelming turnout from different parts of Dharmanagar subdivision, as well as party workers and supporters from Panisagar, Kanchanpur, Kailashahar, and neighbouring areas. The auditorium remained packed as people gathered to pay their last respects to the veteran leader.

The programme began with floral tributes to Faizur Rahman's portrait. Besides Manik Sarkar, tributes were offered by CPI(M) State Secretariat members Amitabha Dutta and Rajendra Reang, North Tripura District Secretary Abhijit Dey, State Committee members Islam Uddin, Bijita Nath, Ajit Das, Ashish Nath, senior party leader Debnath, district and subdivision committee members, along with Rahman's family members, including his sons Bazrul Islam and Atikul Islam.
