Tripura Signs Tripartite MoU with NDDB to Boost Dairy Sector

Tripura on Tuesday signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd for strengthening the state’s cooperative dairy sector and aligning it with the national “White Revolution 2.0” initiative.

The MoU was signed at a programme held at the state secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. The agreement involves the state’s Animal Resources Development Department, NDDB and Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd.

Under the arrangement, a Comprehensive Cooperative Dairy Development Programme (CCDDP) will be formulated and implemented in the state with the objective of increasing milk production, strengthening dairy cooperatives and improving the livelihood of livestock rearers.

Speaking on the occasion, Saha said the state government has been implementing various initiatives to increase milk production and make livestock rearers economically self-reliant.

He said the dairy sector could play a significant role in enhancing the income of farmers and livestock rearers and in strengthening the rural economy.

Referring to Gujarat’s success in dairy production, the chief minister said Tripura also aims to establish itself in the sector and secure a place on the national dairy map.

Animal Resources Development, Fisheries and Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das said the agreement would help create a sustainable development framework through increased milk production and open new avenues for the socio-economic advancement of livestock rearers.

He said milk production in the state has been rising steadily and the government is taking further measures to increase output.

Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia said cooperative institutions in the state have witnessed positive changes in recent years and the government is working to strengthen the cooperative movement.

The MoU was signed by Animal Resources Development Department Secretary Deepa D. Nair on behalf of the Tripura government, NDDB North East Regional Head Dr Sabyasachi Roy on behalf of the board, and Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd Chairman Ratan Ghosh on behalf of the cooperative body.

NDDB Chairman Dr Meenesh Shah and Ghosh also spoke on measures for the development of the dairy sector, expansion of cooperative-based production and market outreach in the state.

Senior officials of the state government, NDDB representatives and members of the cooperative union were present at the event.
