Questions continue to mount over the June 19 attack on the residence of Health Department employee Kaberi Sinha near Dasharath Deb Stadium in Badharghat, as no arrests have yet been made despite serious allegations of vandalism, assault, and police inaction during the incident.

In a significant development, Sub-Inspector Susmita Debnath of Amtali Police Station has reportedly been "closed" from her duties at the police station following allegations that she was present at the scene when the attack occurred but failed to prevent the violence. While departmental action appears to have been initiated against the police officer, critics argue that the absence of arrests of the alleged perpetrators has intensified public concern over the handling of the case.

According to reports, the violence erupted following a dispute involving a woman and allegations of an extramarital relationship. The situation allegedly escalated when a group of individuals arrived at Kaberi Sinha's residence in the Badharghat area late at night. Family members claim that the attackers vandalized property, physically assaulted residents, and created an atmosphere of fear and panic in the locality.

Victims who sustained injuries were reportedly taken for medical treatment, while local residents expressed concern over what they described as a deteriorating law-and-order situation. The incident has drawn widespread attention because allegations have surfaced that the attack took place in the presence of police personnel, raising questions about whether adequate action was taken to prevent the violence.

The controversy has acquired political significance amid claims that some of the accused are linked to the ruling BJP. Opposition voices and local residents have questioned why, despite the seriousness of the allegations and the passage of several days, no accused persons have been arrested. They argue that disciplinary action against a police officer alone cannot substitute for criminal proceedings against those allegedly involved in the attack.

The incident comes at a time when Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has repeatedly emphasized that the rule of law would prevail in Tripura and that no individual would be protected from legal action on the basis of political affiliation. Critics contend that the delay in arrests has raised doubts about whether this principle is being effectively enforced on the ground.

Family members of Kaberi Sinha have demanded the immediate arrest of all those responsible and a fair, impartial investigation into the attack. They have alleged that influential individuals were involved and expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of the police inquiry. Local residents have similarly called upon the administration to ensure equal application of the law, regardless of political identity or social influence.

As of the filing of this report, police officials have not announced any major breakthrough in the investigation, nor have they publicly disclosed the identities of suspects or confirmed any arrests. The lack of visible progress has fueled growing public debate over law enforcement accountability, political influence, and citizens’ confidence in the justice system.

The June 19 incident has now become a focal point of discussion across Tripura, with civil society groups, political observers, and ordinary citizens closely monitoring developments and awaiting decisive action from the authorities to ensure accountability and restore public trust in the rule of law.
