In a significant step towards aligning school education with the evolving demands of the 21st century as per new CBSE curriculum, Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir, Narsingarh, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Composite Skill Lab in accordance with the latest CBSE Skill Education and Vocational Learning Guidelines and the transformative vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The newly established facility, named the KV Gopalakrishnan Tech Innovation Lab, was inaugurated as part of the centenary celebrations of the late KV Gopalakrishnan, a revered educationist and the founding Director of the Agartala Centre of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. The initiative is being hailed as a landmark development in school education, with Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir claiming to be the first school in Tripura to establish a fully integrated Composite Skill Lab under one roof, equipped with advanced technology and innovation-based learning tools.
The lab has been designed to foster experiential learning and equip students with future-ready skills. It features cutting-edge facilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Drone Technology, Coding Platforms, Digital Innovation Tools, and Smart Learning Infrastructure. By bridging classroom learning with practical application, the institution aims to nurture critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, collaboration, adaptability, and technological competence among students.
Educationists view such initiatives as crucial in preparing students for emerging career opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven world. The launch also highlights the growing emphasis on vocational education and skill-based learning envisioned under NEP 2020.
However, the development has also drawn attention to the contrasting situation in many government schools across the state. Critics point out that despite the policy emphasis on AI education, vocational learning, and the mandatory three-language framework, there has been little visible progress in establishing the required infrastructure or recruiting trained teachers to implement these reforms effectively in government institutions. Concerns have been raised over the lack of dedicated facilities, technological resources, and specialized educators needed to deliver future-oriented education on par with leading private schools.
The inauguration carried special emotional significance as it paid tribute to the legacy of KV Gopalakrishnan, whose contributions to education, cultural development, and character-building have left a lasting impact on generations of students. To commemorate his 100th birth anniversary, the school organized a special presentation highlighting his life, vision, and achievements, enabling students to learn about his enduring influence on the Bhavan’s educational movement.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, members of the media, parents, and well-wishers, who lauded the institution’s commitment to innovation and educational excellence. The launch of the KV Gopalakrishnan Tech Innovation Lab is expected to serve as a model for future educational initiatives in Tripura, reinforcing the importance of skill-based learning and technological empowerment in shaping the next generation of learners.
