Emphasizing the vital role of yoga in maintaining a disease-free, healthy, and mindful life, Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr) Manik Saha urged citizens to adopt regular yoga practice as an integral part of their daily routine. He made the appeal while participating in the state-level observance of International Yoga Day at the Hapania International Exhibition Ground on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted that yoga and pranayama, which originated in India’s ancient cultural and spiritual traditions, have today emerged as powerful tools for promoting physical well-being, mental peace, and holistic development across the globe. He said that in an era marked by increasing lifestyle-related diseases, stress, and mental health challenges, yoga offers a simple yet effective path toward achieving a healthy, balanced, and conscious way of life.

Dr. Saha noted that the global recognition of yoga has significantly strengthened India’s cultural and philosophical influence worldwide. He recalled that the proposal to observe International Yoga Day was first placed before the international community in 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The proposal received overwhelming support from a majority of countries at the United Nations, leading to the declaration of June 21 as International Yoga Day. Since 2015, the day has been celebrated annually across the world, bringing people together through the shared values of health, harmony, and wellness.

This year’s International Yoga Day was observed under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” reflecting the growing importance of maintaining physical fitness and mental well-being throughout all stages of life. The mass yoga demonstration at the Hapania International Exhibition Ground witnessed enthusiastic participation from government officials, yoga practitioners, students, security personnel, and members of the public.

The Chief Minister joined participants in performing various yoga asanas and breathing exercises and reiterated that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a complete way of life that nurtures harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. He encouraged people from all age groups to embrace yoga regularly to enhance their overall health and contribute to a healthier society.

The celebration formed part of the nationwide observance of International Yoga Day, with events organized across the country to promote awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage its adoption as a means of achieving long-term health and well-being.
