A woman who had lodged a complaint leading to the arrest of an alleged fraudster was herself arrested after reportedly assaulting the accused inside a police station, police said on Saturday.
The complainant, identified as Tanushree Roy, had filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Pritam Das, accusing him of circulating fake recruitment advertisements in the name of a private information technology company with the intention of deceiving job seekers. Roy claimed to be the manager of the company, which operates from IT Bhavan in Agartala.
Acting on the complaint, personnel from NCC Police Station apprehended Das from the Banikya Chowmuhani area.
According to police, the accused had allegedly used the company's name to lure people by offering fraudulent employment opportunities. Following an investigation based on the complaint, Das was taken into custody.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn after Roy arrived at the police station upon learning about the arrest. Police alleged that she confronted and physically assaulted Das while he was in custody.
Officer-in-Charge of NCC Police Station Prajit Malakar said the entire incident was captured by the station's CCTV cameras and was also witnessed by members of the accused's family who were present at the time.
Based on the incident, police registered a suo motu case against Roy and subsequently arrested her.
Police said Roy was later produced before a court and granted bail, while Das was remanded to judicial custody in connection with the alleged recruitment fraud case.
