In a major boost to healthcare and medical education in Tripura, the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has formally accepted the State Government’s application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Tepania, Udaipur in Gomati district.

The proposed institution has been granted acceptance for further processing with an intake capacity of 60 seats in the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course from the academic session 2026–27, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of medical education infrastructure in the state.

According to an official communication issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NCISM on June 18, 2026, the application submitted by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, has been accepted under the provisions of the NCISM Act, 2020. The proposal seeks permission to establish a new Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Tepania, Udaipur, which will be the first government-run Ayurvedic medical college in Tripura.

Welcoming the development, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha described the acceptance of the proposal as a landmark achievement for the state’s healthcare and education sectors.

“The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted our application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the academic session 2026–27,” the Chief Minister stated.

Expressing gratitude to the central leadership, Dr. Saha said, “My heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and unwavering support in strengthening healthcare and medical education across the country.”

The Chief Minister emphasized that the new institution would play a transformative role in promoting Ayurveda and traditional systems of medicine in the state. He noted that the college would create fresh opportunities for students aspiring to pursue Ayurvedic studies while simultaneously strengthening healthcare services and research in indigenous medical practices.

The establishment of the Ayurvedic Medical College is expected to reduce the need for Tripura students to travel outside the state for Ayurvedic education. It will also contribute to the development of skilled healthcare professionals trained in traditional Indian medicine and support the growing national focus on integrative healthcare systems.
