In a significant social welfare initiative aimed at supporting economically weaker and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken up an ambitious plan to construct a modern and affordable community marriage hall within the municipal area. The proposed facility is expected to provide a dignified and cost-effective venue for weddings and other social functions, reducing the financial burden on low-income households. As part of the project, AMC officials on Tuesday identified a potential site along the banks of the Howrah River near Battala. AMC Chairman Dipak Majumder personally visited the proposed location along with senior municipal officials and engineers to inspect the land and assess its suitability for the project.According to municipal authorities, the construction of the modern “Biye Bari” (Marriage Hall) is expected to be completed within the next five months. Once operational, the facility will be made available to residents at a highly subsidized cost, particularly benefiting financially weaker sections of society who often struggle to arrange affordable venues for weddings and family functions.

The proposed infrastructure is being designed not only as a marriage hall but also as a multi-purpose social event venue that can accommodate various community gatherings and cultural programmes. To ensure convenience for guests and visitors, AMC has also planned a large parking facility alongside the marriage hall. The parking area will have the capacity to accommodate around 80 cars and 200 motorcycles at a time, addressing one of the major challenges faced during large social events in urban areas.Municipal officials stated that the project reflects the civic body's commitment to creating inclusive public infrastructure that serves the needs of ordinary citizens. The initiative is expected to particularly benefit lower-income families by providing a modern, accessible and affordable venue for important social occasions.

Once completed, the proposed marriage hall is likely to become one of the largest public community event facilities under the Agartala Municipal Corporation, offering residents a well-equipped and economical alternative for organizing weddings and social ceremonies while easing the financial pressure associated with such events.
