Tripura has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform its Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector into a major driver of economic growth, employment generation, exports and entrepreneurship, with a strong focus on women-led enterprises, digital transformation, market expansion and sustainable industrial development. The vision was highlighted during the 2nd Tripura Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM), organized on June 16 2026 at Hotel Polo Towers under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) programme, which aims to connect local enterprises with national and international markets while creating new business opportunities across the state.
The MSME sector has emerged as one of the pillars of Tripura’s economy, with more than 1.12 lakh MSMEs currently operating across the state, making it the second-largest employment generator after agriculture. The sector contributes significantly to rural livelihoods, local value addition, women’s entrepreneurship and export promotion, while supporting economic activities in both urban and rural areas.
To accelerate this growth trajectory, the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, has approved a budget of Rs.65.17 crore for Tripura under the RAMP programme. The Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Tripura, is implementing the initiative with support from national agencies to improve competitiveness, technology adoption, market access and financing opportunities for MSMEs.
A key component of the programme is the creation of a robust entrepreneurship pipeline. Over the next three years, the state aims to train 24,000 unemployed youth through Entrepreneurship Knowledge Programmes (EKP) and nurture 2,400 prospective entrepreneurs through Entrepreneurship Growth Programmes (EGP). So far, 88 training sessions involving nearly 8,000 participants have been conducted, with more than 90 percent women participation and over 75 percent participation from Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste and OBC communities. The initiative seeks to build a new generation of entrepreneurs equipped with knowledge of finance, taxation, business planning, digital commerce and MSME formalization.
Tripura is also establishing the Tripura Enterprise Development Hub (TEDH), which aims to incubate 800 MSMEs, facilitate the graduation of 400 enterprises into stronger businesses and provide technical assistance to 1,000 enterprises. Currently, over 3,200 MSMEs have been contacted through awareness campaigns and around 200 enterprises are already undergoing incubation support.
To strengthen grassroots implementation, the state has deployed 83 Block and Urban Local Body Resource Persons across all eight districts. These resource persons are supporting MSMEs through credit facilitation, government scheme awareness, Udyam registration, GST and FSSAI compliance, market linkages and grievance redressal, effectively bringing MSME governance closer to entrepreneurs.
Digital transformation is another major pillar of the programme. An integrated MIS-based MSME portal is nearing completion, with 95 percent of the work already finished and the platform expected to be launched by the end of June. The portal will facilitate centralized data management, real-time project monitoring and streamlined information sharing among stakeholders. Simultaneously, IT infrastructure upgrades across District Industries Centres are progressing, with over 50 percent of the targets already achieved.
Market access initiatives under RAMP have already begun yielding results. A survey and gap analysis covering 2,000 MSMEs has been undertaken, while 303 enterprises have participated in outreach programmes focused on digital inclusion, finance and business communication. Support has been extended to 162 MSMEs for participation in RBSMs, resulting in 103 new Udyam registrations, 90 ONDC onboardings and 75 digital marketing training sessions.
The success of the first Reverse Buyer Seller Meet held in February 2026 has reinforced confidence in Tripura’s MSME ecosystem. The event generated 30 Letters of Intent and two Memoranda of Understanding across sectors such as bamboo, rubber, tea, food processing and agar products. Buyers expressed interest in procuring over 3.47 lakh kilograms of products and 1,000 bamboo-based units from Tripura enterprises, creating new supply chain linkages and business opportunities for local manufacturers.
The state government is now planning national and international editions of the Reverse Buyer Seller Meet to further integrate Tripura’s producers with larger markets. The objective is to create sustainable procurement relationships, expand exports and enhance the visibility of Tripura-made products across India and abroad.
To improve access to finance, the Tripura RAMP Partial Reimbursement of Loan Incentive Scheme was launched in January 2026. Under the scheme, 487 MSMEs have already received interest reimbursement assistance worth Rs.70 lakh, while another Rs.36.6 lakh is set to be released to 265 beneficiaries. The programme aims to support 3,600 MSMEs by providing reimbursement of 5 percent interest on term loans, subject to a maximum of Rs.15,000 per enterprise.
Sustainability and competitiveness have also been prioritized. Through technology clinics, the state plans to educate and train 19,200 MSMEs on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles and Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) practices. Already, 113 workshops involving 6,012 participants have been conducted, with women accounting for nearly 95 percent of attendees.
