The Tripura Education Department has directed schools to conduct assessments of students every 15 days to monitor learning outcomes and strengthen foundational education, officials said on Tuesday.
The directive was issued by Education Secretary Milind Ramteke during a review meeting with heads of around 400 government schools in Dhalai district's Ambassa and Longtharai Valley subdivisions.
The meeting, held at Ambassa Town Hall, covered schools under the Ambassa, Manu and Chawmanu blocks, including junior basic, senior basic, high and higher secondary institutions. Officials reviewed the overall status of education in the region, with a particular focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning in rural schools.
Ramteke advised teachers and headmasters to closely monitor individual students and ensure that quality education is imparted in a manner that strengthens their academic foundation. He stressed the need for regular evaluation of students' learning progress and directed schools to assess academic improvement at intervals of 15 days.
According to officials, the review was aimed at identifying gaps in foundational learning and ensuring that students attain the required competencies at different levels of schooling.
The meeting also discussed the overall educational situation in rural areas and various aspects of classroom teaching practices adopted by schools. Senior district and education officials participated in the deliberations.
Dhalai District Magistrate Vivek H.B. was present at the meeting along with Sub-Divisional Magistrates, the District Education Officer and school inspectors, officials said.
The review exercise follows instructions from Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, who recently directed regular monitoring of educational standards in the state, particularly in rural areas. In line with those directions, the Education Secretary and other senior officials have been conducting field visits and reviews across different parts of Tripura.
Officials said similar review meetings would be organised across all districts and subdivisions of the state as part of the department's ongoing effort to track educational performance and learning outcomes.
