The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Asish Kumar Saha has strongly condemned the unprovoked police assault on peaceful Youth Congress and NSUI activists agitating democratically to press for resignation of the union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan in protest against the leakage of NEET and CBSE questions papers and the damage to vital interests of students caused by this . Speaking on phone from AD Nagar police line where a large number of agitators have been confined by police Asish said that the movement today had been launched by the YC (I) unit and NSUI at the inspiration of AICC president Rahul Gandhi to protest the injustice done to the student community and it had drawn spontaneous participation from students and youths who are not members of the YC (I) or NSUI .

“During the past twelve years of misrule of the BJP led government in Centre and states there have been leakages of question papers of important exams like the NEET and CBSE at least 89 times but in stead taking corrective action both the prime minister and the education minister have kept silent over the issue ; our workers and supporters including the student community launched the blockade of chief minister’s residence in exercise of their democratic rights to press for resignation of the union education minister” said Asish . He added that the youths and students had been lathi-charged by the ‘party slave’ police personnel subjected to attacks from water cannons without any provocation as the agitation had been totally peaceful and within bounds of law.

Asish said that 10/11 YC (I) and NSUI activists including women had been injured by the police lathi-charge and named them as Lipika Rudrapaul, Bidhan Debnath, Manik Majuder and others as leading ones. “Some of them had to undergo treatment in hospital with bleeding head and hands. “But their spirit of protest has been further boosted by the police assault and the movement of NSUI and YC (I) as party of countrywide protest will further intensify in the coming days” said Asish . He added that the BJP governments in state and Centre are destroying the entire education system in the country through corruption and mismanagement and Congress will not put up with this but will continue to protest .
