School girl mass raped by minors in Atharobola area under Killa police station, police and social body trying to hush up the crime

There has been a sharp spurt in sex related crimes including rapes in different parts of the state. In the latest outrage a tribal school girl was gang-raped by four tribal minors on her way back home from school yesterday in Atharobola area under Killa police station. As the news about the crimes spreads personnel of Killa police station , in stead of arresting the culprits, joined hands with the local ‘Luku’ (social) committee in having the dispute over the crime patched up. Finally however two of the four accused minors were arrested by police.

Sources from Killa said that the minor girl, a student of class IX , was returning home alone to Taibaklai village under Tulsirambari ADC village from government run Jalemabari HS school. On her way back the girl was stopped by four minor boys who took her forcibly to a nearby rubber garden and serially raped her . The girl returned home in a seriously injured condition and had to be admitted to Gomati district hospital in Tepania area.

Despite the filing of a specific complaint by the girl’s parents the police in Killa station detained two of the minor culprits but have been dragging their feet on action against the rest . Sources said that the local ‘Luku’ (social) committee has intervened in the matter and police is under pressure to have the matter patched up through discussion. This move on the part of police and ‘Luku’ committee has sparked serious resentment among the people who demand arrest of the culprits and their punishment.
