In a notable ENT surgical achievement, Dr. Rituparna Saha, Consultant ENT Surgeon at ILS Hospitals Agartala, successfully managed a rare case of chronic tonsillitis associated with Eagle’s Syndrome in a 45-year-old female patient. Dr. Saha is an ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon associated with ILS Hospital, Agartala.

The patient had been suffering for nearly two years from persistent right-sided throat pain, a foreign body sensation in the throat, and pain radiating to the ear while swallowing. Clinical examination revealed an elongated styloid process palpable in the tonsillar fossa, raising suspicion of Eagle’s Syndrome.

Following confirmation of the diagnosis, the patient underwent bilateral tonsillectomy with right-sided endoscopic transoral styloidectomy under general anaesthesia. Using a 0-degree endoscope through the tonsillar fossa, Dr. Saha successfully removed the elongated styloid process.

The endoscopic approach provided superior illumination and magnified visualization, allowing precise dissection while remaining safely away from critical neurovascular structures. The procedure was completed without complications, and the patient is recovering well.

Medical experts noted that Eagle’s Syndrome is an uncommon condition caused by an elongated styloid process, often leading to chronic throat pain, difficulty in swallowing, and referred ear pain. Advanced endoscopic techniques now allow safer and more effective treatment with minimal surgical morbidity. The safe performing of this surgery by Dr Rituparna Saha is considered a major achievement by the doctor as well as ILS hospital which provides the best possible treatment.
