In a significant development for Tripura's border trade and connectivity, the Stakeholder Accommodation Facility at the Srimantapur Land Port in Tripura will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on June 9, 2026, coinciding with the launch of the ambitious Land Port Management System (LPMS) in New Delhi.

The initiative marks a major milestone in the Government of India's efforts to modernize border infrastructure and strengthen trade facilitation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The launch is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency, transparency, and security at India's international land borders, including Tripura's strategically important border gateways.

The newly developed accommodation facility at Srimantapur Land Port is aimed at providing improved infrastructure and support services for border security personnel, customs officials, traders, transport operators, and other stakeholders engaged in cross-border activities. Simultaneously, a similar facility will also be inaugurated at Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya.

The highlight of the event will be the launch of the Land Port Management System (LPMS), a state-of-the-art digital platform designed to transform the functioning of India's land ports. The platform will integrate all major operational activities into a single digital ecosystem, enabling seamless coordination among government agencies, customs authorities, immigration officials, logistics operators, and private stakeholders.

Officials said LPMS will introduce end-to-end digital processing for cargo and passenger movement. The system will facilitate online slot booking, digital payments, cargo tracking, regulatory approvals, and single-window clearances, thereby minimizing paperwork and reducing delays at border checkpoints.

A key feature of LPMS is its integration with major national digital platforms such as ICEGATE, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), and the national motor vehicle ecosystem. This interoperability will ensure faster movement of goods and passengers while maintaining robust security standards.

For Tripura, the initiative carries special significance. The state has emerged as one of India's most important gateways to Bangladesh and Southeast Asia under the Act East Policy. The state's land ports play a crucial role in facilitating bilateral trade and people-to-people connectivity with neighboring Bangladesh.

The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), functioning under the Department of Border Management of the Ministry of Home Affairs, currently operates three major land ports in Tripura: Agartala Integrated Check Post, Srimantapur Land Port and Sabroom Integrated Check Post. These facilities serve as vital trade corridors connecting India with Bangladesh and contribute significantly to regional economic development.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, LPMS will place India's land ports on par with the advanced digital systems currently operational at airports and seaports. The platform is expected to improve logistics efficiency, strengthen border governance, boost international trade, and enhance national security.

The launch aligns with the Government's broader vision of creating a technology-driven, transparent, and efficient border management framework as India progresses towards the goal of becoming a developed nation under the "Viksit Bharat 2047" vision.

With the inauguration of the new stakeholder facility at Srimantapur and the rollout of LPMS, Tripura is poised to play an even greater role in India's international trade architecture, reinforcing its position as a key gateway to Bangladesh and the broader South Asian region.

The June 9 launch is expected to usher in a new era of smart border management, benefiting traders, transporters, security agencies and citizens while strengthening Tripura's strategic importance in India's connectivity and economic growth agenda.
