Middle-aged man sentenced to twenty years of rigorous imprisonment for abduction and rape of minor girl

In a judicial pronouncement expected to send a positive signal , a middle-aged man who is also the father of a daughter was sentenced to twenty years of rigorous imprisonment, a fine of Rs 10 thousand and two more years of jail in the event of non-payment of the fine. The order was passed today by the south district session judge Gobinda Das in Belonia today after four years of trial and recording of testimonies of eighteen persons.

Sources from Belonia said that Raju Das (42), a resident of Ishan Chandra Nagar village in Belonia and father of a daughter, had kidnapped a fifteen yearold girl from Chottakhola market on February 28 2021. The girl had gone to stay with her maternal uncle and his family and had gone to the market to watch a festival there. Raju Das took the girl to an unknown place nearby and started raping her.

The minor girl’s parents filed a case of abduction with the PR Bari police station in Rajnagar area . Within a few days the police personnel from Belonia traced out Raju Das , rescued the traumatized girl and nabbed rapid Raju Das. In due time the charge-sheet was filed in the Belonia district and session court , having handed over the girl to her parents soon after rescue. The case dragged on for four years and altogether 18 people gave testimonies in court during trial . Finally the charges of abduction and rape were proved against Raju Das the sentencing was proclaimed today in the afternoon. The special public prosecutor Prabhat Chandra Datta conducted the case for prosecution-that is, the government side.
