Police action against narcotic peddling in city under scrutiny

Locals of several areas in Agartala have alleged that yaba tablets and narcotic injections are being sold openly, and claimed that no effective action has been taken despite repeated complaints to the police.

According to a section of city dwellers, the illegal trade has been continuing for a considerable period in a number of locations under the East and West Agartala police station areas.

The areas where such activities go on almost unabated include: Vivekananda Maidan, Chandrapur Bazar Bipani Bitan and Bonkumari under East Agartala police station, as well as areas near City Centre and the new gate of IGM Hospital under West Agartala police station.

Locals alleged that the sale of yaba tablets and narcotic injections takes place openly during both day and night in these localities.

They claimed that the matter had been brought to the notice of the police on multiple occasions, but alleged that no visible action has been taken so far against those involved in the trade.

It should also be noted here that a few days back, a sting operation conducted by content creator Biswajit Das exposed the grim realities of drug trafficking in the city.
