The Tripura government has initiated the process for establishing a new medical college in Jolaibari of South Tripura district under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), with a joint inspection scheduled on June 9 to identify suitable land for the project.

According to an official communication issued by the South Tripura district administration, the site visit will be conducted in Jolaibari RD Block under Santirbazar subdivision. Debdaru Primary Health Centre has been designated as the meeting point for the inspection team.

Officials from several departments, including the district administration, health, public works and revenue departments, have been directed to participate in the exercise. Representatives of local self-government bodies have also been asked to remain present during the visit.

Minority Welfare Minister and Jolaibari MLA Shukla Charan Noatia said the proposal for setting up the medical college has been taken up under the PMJVK scheme. In a social media post, he stated that the institution is expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the region while creating opportunities in higher education and employment.

The proposed college would be the latest addition to Tripura’s expanding medical education network if the project receives the necessary clearances.

At present, the administration has only begun the process of identifying land for the institution. Details regarding project cost, seat capacity, funding pattern, construction schedule and final approval are yet to be announced by the government.
