The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has sought reports from the Director of Health Services on two recent deaths at state-run hospitals, taking suo motu cognisance of both incidents.
In the first case, the Commission, headed by Justice Arindam Lodh, took note of reports alleging that a patient at GBP Hospital was found lying unattended in a medicine ward toilet on May 31 and later died. Observing that the allegations, if true, could amount to a violation of human rights, the Commission directed the Director of Health Services to submit a report within 15 days.
In a separate matter, the THRC sought a report on the death of a pregnant woman at IGM Hospital following allegations of medical negligence and absence of doctors. The Commission said the incident raised serious concerns regarding the quality of medical services and possible violation of the patient's rights.
Both matters have been listed for hearing on July 3.
