Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Tripura on a two-day official visit beginning June 4. The visit is being viewed as highly significant for the state's security, border management, and infrastructure development initiatives.
During his stay, the Home Minister will primarily focus on reviewing security arrangements along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura. He is expected to visit several border locations to assess the implementation and future expansion of Smart Border Management Systems aimed at strengthening surveillance, preventing illegal infiltration, curbing smuggling, and enhancing overall border security.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Border Security Force (BSF), and the Tripura administration are expected to accompany Shah during the field inspections. The visit comes at a time when the Central Government is placing increased emphasis on the use of advanced technology, including smart fencing, electronic surveillance systems, drones, sensors, and integrated command-and-control mechanisms to secure international borders.
Apart from reviewing border security measures, the Home Minister will also participate in the Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) of the upcoming Pushpabanta Royal Palace Hotel Project, which is being developed by the Tata Group. The luxury heritage hotel project is expected to transform the historic Pushpabanta Palace into a world-class hospitality destination and significantly boost tourism in Tripura.
The redevelopment of the royal palace under Tata Group's hospitality initiative is being seen as a landmark project for the state's tourism sector. Once completed by October 2028, the heritage property is expected to attract domestic and international tourists while generating employment opportunities and promoting Tripura's rich cultural heritage.
In view of the VVIP visit, the Tripura Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory for June 4 and June 5. Restrictions will be imposed on several major routes during the movement of the Home Minister's convoy. The affected stretches include:
MBB Airport to Frontier BSF Headquarters, Salbagan
Lichubagan to Buddha Mandir
Bharat Ratna Club Crossing to Lankamura Border Outpost (BOP).
To minimize inconvenience, commuters have been advised to use alternative routes identified by the traffic authorities. Airport-bound passengers have also been requested to start their journeys well in advance and reach the airport at least three hours before their scheduled flights.
Security arrangements across Agartala and key border locations have been significantly strengthened ahead of the visit. Senior police officers, BSF personnel, and administrative officials are coordinating efforts to ensure smooth movement and successful completion of the Home Minister's engagements.
