BDO Office Allegedly Attacked and Vandalised in Amarpur, Employees Stage Protest Demanding Strict Action

Tension prevailed at the Amarpur RD Block office on Wednesday after allegations surfaced of vandalism, intimidation, and disrespect towards a national symbol inside the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO). In protest against the incident and demanding exemplary punishment for the accused, employees of the block administration staged a sit-in demonstration at the entrance of the office premises.

According to a memorandum submitted by the employees to the District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati district, the incident allegedly took place on June 2 at around 11 am while an official meeting was in progress in the BDO’s chamber. The employees alleged that some Panchayat individuals suddenly became aggressive and confronted the BDO during the meeting.

The memorandum states that the accused repeatedly struck the BDO’s office table in an attempt to intimidate the officer and subsequently threw the Ashoka Pillar emblem, India's national symbol, from the table. The employees further alleged that glassware, including a drinking glass and a tea cup, was hurled towards the BDO during the altercation.

Block employees described the incident as not merely an attack on a government officer but a direct assault on the dignity, authority, and security of the administrative system. They claimed that the episode has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among government staff working in the block office.

Demanding immediate legal action against the accused, adequate security measures for government officials, and protection of administrative dignity, employees launched a protest demonstration in front of the Amarpur RD Block office gate from 9:30 am on Wednesday. The demonstrators urged the authorities to take swift and decisive action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As of Wednesday evening, no official statement had been issued by the administration regarding the allegations. Officials and employees alike are awaiting the outcome of the investigation and any subsequent action by the authorities.

The incident has drawn attention across administrative circles, with many viewing it as a serious challenge to the safety of public servants and the functioning of government institutions. The matter is expected to remain under close scrutiny as authorities assess the allegations and determine the next course of action.
