A tragic and unusual situation unfolded on the railway line near Koraiyamura under Bishramganj when the body of an unidentified person remained lying on the track for more than 24 hours, reportedly due to the absence of personnel and logistical arrangements to remove the corpse.

The incident caused significant disruption to railway services on Wednesday morning, when the Agartala–Sabroom passenger train (WDG4D-70776) was forced to halt for nearly one and a half hours on the railway track near Koraiyamura.

According to local sources, the unidentified individual was allegedly killed on Tuesday night after being struck by a train. However, despite the passage of several hours, the body reportedly remained on the railway track as authorities were unable to remove it immediately.

In a remarkable display of humanity and professional ethics, the train driver of the Agartala–Sabroom passenger service reportedly refused to move the train over the deceased person's body. The locomotive remained stationary until efforts were made to address the situation, prioritizing respect for the deceased over operational convenience.

The prolonged halt caused considerable inconvenience to passengers travelling on the train. Hundreds of commuters, including women, children, and elderly passengers, were left stranded in the scorching summer heat. Many passengers expressed frustration over the delay and questioned why the body had not been removed despite more than 24 hours having elapsed since the incident taken place at 9 pm yesterday night.

The incident has also raised concerns regarding emergency response mechanisms and coordination among railway authorities, police, and other concerned departments. Local residents and passengers alike demanded a prompt investigation into the circumstances that led to the body remaining on the track for such an extended period upto 9.30 am today morning.

While the identity of the deceased had not been established at the time of reporting at 9.15 this morning, police and railway authorities were expected to continue efforts to identify the victim and complete the necessary legal formalities.

The incident has sparked public discussion on both administrative preparedness and the compassionate decision of the train driver, whose refusal to run the train over the body was widely viewed by passengers and local residents as an act of respect for human dignity.
