The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre, Agartala, has forecast continued light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Tripura over the next seven days, with hot and humid weather conditions expected to persist in several districts during the first half of the forecast period.
According to the latest evening weather bulletin issued at 7:30 PM on June 2, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places across Tripura from June 3 to June 5. From June 5 onwards, rainfall activity is expected to become more widespread, with rain and thundershowers likely at many places across the state.
The IMD has also warned that hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places in West Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura districts during the next three days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at one or two places across the state during this period.
Meteorologists have indicated that maximum temperatures may remain 3°C to 4°C above normal during the next three to four days, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain near normal.
The department has cautioned that thunderstorms may cause damage to standing crops, plantations, horticultural produce, vulnerable structures, power and communication lines, and may uproot trees. Lightning strikes could also pose risks to people and livestock in open areas.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, unplug electrical appliances during lightning activity, and keep away from water bodies. Farmers have been advised to suspend field operations during thunderstorm events.
Regarding the prevailing hot and humid conditions, IMD has urged people to avoid direct exposure to the sun between 10 AM and 3 PM, drink adequate water, wear light-colored cotton clothing, and avoid dehydrating beverages. Farmers have also been advised to continue irrigation activities and ensure adequate shelter and ventilation for livestock.
