The State Election Commission (SEC), Tripura, has issued an official notification announcing the programme for preparation and publication of electoral rolls for the forthcoming General Elections to the Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in 2026.
The notification, issued under Rule 14(1) and 14(2) of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Village Committee (Preparation of Electoral Roll) Rules, 1996, outlines the schedule for draft publication, filing of claims and objections, disposal of applications, and final publication of electoral rolls.
According to the notification signed by State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar, the electoral roll preparation process will follow a time-bound programme to ensure transparency and accuracy before the elections.
Electoral Roll Schedule
Event Date
Publication of Draft Electoral Rolls June 2, 2026
Filing of Claims and Objections June 9, 2026
Disposal of Claims and Objections June 10–11, 2026
Final Publication of Electoral Rolls June 15, 2026
The Commission has clarified that the electoral rolls for Village Committee constituencies will be based on the electoral rolls of the State Assembly constituencies that are currently in force.
Instructions to Election Officials
The SEC has directed all Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), primarily the Block Development Officers (BDOs), to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Village Committee (Preparation of Electoral Roll) Rules, 1996 while carrying out the revision and publication process.
District Election Officers (District Magistrates and Collectors) of North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai, West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura districts have been informed and instructed to oversee the process.
Copies Sent to Key Authorities
The notification has also been forwarded to the Governor of Tripura, the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Tribal Welfare Department, Chief Electoral Officer, Chief Executive Officer of TTAADC, Director of Information Technology, and all Sub-Divisional Magistrates for information and necessary action.
The Director of GA (Printing & Stationery) Department has been requested to publish the notification in an extraordinary issue of the Tripura Gazette.
Significance
The publication of the electoral roll programme marks the formal beginning of the election process for the Village Committees under TTAADC. Electoral rolls form the foundation of any democratic election, and the claims and objections process provides eligible voters an opportunity to correct errors, add missing names, or address discrepancies before the final rolls are published.
With the final electoral rolls scheduled for publication on June 15, 2026, preparations for the much-anticipated TTAADC Village Committee elections are expected to gather momentum across the tribal areas of Tripura.
