Tripura Accelerates Digital Governance: From Cabinet Meetings to Village Panchayats, Administration Going Paperless, Says CS

Tripura is steadily transforming into a digitally empowered state, with administrative processes becoming increasingly technology-driven from the Cabinet level down to Gram Panchayats, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, IAS said while inaugurating the North East Tech Enablement Workshop at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Friday.

The one-day workshop was organized by NICSI (National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, in collaboration with the Tripura Government. The event aimed to promote digital advancement, strengthen technological capabilities, and encourage greater awareness of emerging technologies among the younger generation.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary highlighted that NICSI has created a robust digital infrastructure across the country, enabling states like Tripura to modernize governance and public service delivery.

“Tripura is rapidly becoming digitally empowered. Administrative meetings, from the State Cabinet to the village level, are now being conducted in a paperless manner. Government departments across the state are increasingly adopting digital systems, resulting in greater efficiency and better services for citizens,” he said.

A major highlight of the workshop was the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between NICSI, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala, and Techno India University to promote technical education and skill development in areas such as Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Information Technology.

The MoU was signed by Dr. SK Patra, Director of NIT Agartala, Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha, Vice-Chancellor of Techno India University, and Alok Tiwari, Managing Director of NICSI.

Emphasizing the importance of digital innovation, JK Sinha urged students and young professionals to explore new opportunities in AI and emerging technologies. He assured that the state government would extend all possible support to encourage innovation and technology-driven entrepreneurship.

The Chief Secretary also referred to Tripura’s SWAGAT Portal, an initiative launched to facilitate investment and simplify business processes in the state through inter-departmental coordination. He noted that several other states have shown interest in adopting similar digital platforms, adding that the success of the portal has been made possible with the support and expertise of NICSI.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests RK Shyamal, IFS, NICSI Managing Director Alok Tiwari, NIT Agartala Director Dr. SK Patra, and Techno India University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha emphasized the growing importance of digital technologies in governance, education, and economic development.

The workshop brought together government officials, academicians, technology experts, and students to discuss the future of digital transformation in the North Eastern region and explore avenues for collaboration in emerging technology sectors.

The event underscored Tripura’s commitment to leveraging digital technology for governance reforms, educational advancement, and economic growth, while preparing its youth for opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
